* Good choices for food - mostly didn't require plates & cutlery, or at best a cup (soup awkward in paper bowl but great from mug). Organisation also great, huge thanks guys! RorschachUK (talk) 12:31, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
** I have a source for reasonably priced banners (from small to the size of the side of a big tent) --Nav (talk) 10:10, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

* Separate tent for shiny from kitchen / storage (like hsnotts had) Thinkl33t (talk) 09:21, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
** I may be able to borrow a big green 24'x12' tent - obviously transporting that requires some planning --Nav (talk) 10:10, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
** TBH I'd rather rent the village tent(s) next time. The garage was a good idea from a price POV but was a pain to move around, a bit too small, and i CBA putting it up / taking it down again Thinkl33t (talk) 10:46, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
*** +1 to that. There wasn't enough room to put out the stuff that was brought :( Idnorton (talk) 11:27, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

* Need to bring the coffee machine again next time Idnorton (talk) 09:15, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

* FLAGS / hackspace banners Thinkl33t (talk) 09:22, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
** We have some Leeds hackspace banners - they're just bulks and weren't sufficiently high up my list of things to bring. --Nav (talk) 10:10, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
** We brought a vertical York banner with us but in the absence of one for each of the other groups too we thought it would be a bit unrepresentative - maybe next time banners for each group and/or a Roses emblem of some sort to rule them all RorschachUK (talk) 12:31, 5 September 2014 (UTC)
** We were meant to bring the HacMan sign, but I didn't have time to load it and all the other stuff people wanted to bring JimM (talk) 15:48, 9 September 2014 (UTC)

* Getting connected to the wifi was a PITA (so much so that I didn't bother attempting to get my raspberry pi radar connected). Probably worth coordinating any "connected" projects and maybe going for wired through our own switch? --Nav (talk) 10:07, 5 September 2014 (UTC)

Have a small arcade at EMF
tldr: I was wanting to bring arcades and pinball to EMF. Costs are horrifically expensive. Do people actually want the machines there and is anyone able/willing to help me out?

After getting back from helping North East Retro Gaming's second event (Photo's here), I had the crazy idea of bringing some arcade machines camping with me.

Awesome Retro are already bringing a van load of consoles over from the continent, so there's going to be plenty to play with, but I do kinda feel that some dedicated cabs and hopefully a pinball machine or two would be an immense addition.

I have managed to beg and borrow enough machines from friends (mostly the lovely Retro Games Party lot) to fill a van, but logistic costs have rapidly gotten out of hand.

I have been looking at using a tail-lift Luton box van, as it's the largest thing available without special license, and I'm hoping to squeeze between 9-12 machines into it.

Renting a van + fuel for the week and hiring a man with a van, both work out about £660 to start in Leeds, head to Bolton to meet RGP and then down to EMF -and back again. The rental van has the downside of not coming with straps, which would potentially be a whole other megillah.

EMF have very kindly to help out with some of the costs, but even with that, I'm still looking at being out of pocket £400 + ticket, which is somewhat out of my budget.

After a very quick post and a couple of replies on the mailing list it looks like other people think it's a crazy idea, and based on that, it should be done.

I'm asking people to pledge support for this mad plan, and hopefully even some money to help make this happen.

I'll leave off making a decision until the 13th (so that gives us a week) to gather pledges to confirm this is a very silly idea and that I'll actually be able to afford it.
Massive thank you in advance for your support :)

Plan:

Note: THIS IS NOT THE FINAL BADGE SPECIFICATION. WE MIGHT HAVE HAD TO DROP THE SPECIFICATION A LITTLE :(
The TiLDA mk2 project, Code name "ElectroMagnetic Boogaloo", is being headed by Charles, Bob and 'RepRap' Matt<br/>
If you wish to chat about the badge head over to the [irc://chat.freenode.com/##tilda ##tilda] IRC channel on freenode
Aim
The main aim of the 2014 badge is to give camp attendees live schedule updates and notifications. As with the original TiLDA we wanted to keep with an Arduino compatible platform that will allow badge hacking during and after the camp. As with previous badge all code and design files are available. Work can be found here on github.com/EMF-TiLDA

Features and Functions
A initial planing session was held during the Newcastle MakerFaire 2013, during which a list of essential features was decide upon along with a big list of shiny, mad ideas that may happen depending on budge and time.<br/>
The notes from that session can be found here 2/Ideas List
Essential
The following are considers core things that the badge must do for EMF2014
*	Receive and display announcements on talks scheduling
**	user registers their lanyard and which talks/workshops they are interested in on the emf web site
**	lanyard’s registered for talks receives reminders and notice of when and where a talk will be especially important if a talk is moved (time/location)
*	IR interaction
**	could be used for business card mode, allow users to exchange info at push of a button
**	games
**	talking to TiLDA or SiNE
*	Torch Mode
** One of the side effect of the two RGB LED's on TiLDA was they made a great torch
*	Arduino Compatible
*	Work during the event and be useful afterwards
**	Battery voltage measurement and display, Charging management

Nice to have
The following are things that we hope to implement if we have the time and budget.
*	Locations tracking
** By looking at which gateway the badge is talking to we can get a ruff idea of where on the camp site a badge is located
*	Send text to it, not just talks (SMS you friends badge?)
** we will have a screen and ability to display text, so sending something to a other set badge should be easy.
*	Use the spearks as a PA system, (download recorded WAV over network then synced playback start)
* TiLDA ad SiNE reprogramming
** If we can develop some new firmware to go on SiNE or TiLDA, we might be able to reprogram them from Mk2 by jumping the ISP headers together
* TTS https://github.com/going-digital/Talkie

Hardware
The following hardware has been included on the badge.

N.B. Due to funding issues the badge may/will be much lower spec than this. We almost certainly will not have an e-paper display :(
Prototype
Design for the badge prototype v0.1 was finished on 4th Jan, files are on GitHub. The aim is to have 2-3 PCB's made for testing and firmware development.

Production
As yet there is no information on the final production board other than we expect to make around 1500 and have them ready at least 1.5 months before the event.

Software
Badge Firmware
Gateway
Server side
Hacking
TiLDA Mk2 is base around the Arduino Due platform and this makes it easy to get started writing your own firmware from scratch.<br>
Unlike the Due, TILDA is not just a bare board and it all ready has lots of hardware wired up to the pins.
In order to help make things easier when working with the Arduino IDE we have definite our own board profile. This has a few tweaks to support the differences between Due and TiLDA Mk2 pin usage. It also include a lot of handy pin shortcuts to the TiLDA device pins.<br/>
So instead of having to go back to the TiLDA Mk2 Pin map and looking up just which digital pin controls the RED for LED1 you can just use LED1_RED in pinMode() and digitalWrite calls.<br/>

To use our board definition you will need to first get the Arduino 1.5.5 IDE from here<br/>
Next you can download the TiLDA Mk2 Firmware project from either the github repo or via direct download<br/>
Now copy the "hardware" folder to your Sketchbook folder, this is usually ~/Sketchbook/<br>

Start the Arduino IDE and your will be able to select TiLDA Mk2 for the Tools->Board menu

__NOTOC__ __NOEDITSECTION__
If you've never been to an event like Electromagnetic Field, the concept of villages might be new to you. Villages are camps within EMF, run by attendees. They're organised around a theme, often a location or a topic (e.g. lock-picking). Many villages organise their own workshops and lectures for other volunteers to attend. And of course, share all the fun together!

By organising villages ahead of time we, can help provide better equipment (e.g. large tents to use), as well as allocating a location. You can bring a large tent, a sort of "family room" to set up your gear and work on your projects.
If I put "motorhome" and "marshalling", it's because I meant "motorhome" and "marshalling".
If I had meant "motor-home" and "marshaling", I would have put "motor-home" and "marshaling".
If you think I've made a mistake, please have the common courtesy to contact me about it
before jumping in and 'correcting' me.
For reference:
1) There is no hyphen in 'motorhome' (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/motorhome?q=motorhome), and
2) I am not American and this is not an American event, so I have no intention of spelling
'marshalling' the American way. (http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/marshal?q=marshalling)
