We'll be building a workshop space that's a cool polyhedron in the middle of our village, big enough to do workshops in. Come and join us in building the workshop space on Friday. After that, we'll be running a selection of maths workshops and events in the polyhedron, which will mostly be free but some will include a small charge for materials. We'll post a list of workshops on a board outside the polyhedron, and on the Schedule page of the website.

SpeakerOps - taking care of speakers, making sure they have all they need, know where to go, introducing their talk & co-ordinating questions etc.) is now part of Content. Training and full support is available so you'll be confident and comfortable in the role. This is the rough guide for how the content team functions. If you have any questions, ask Jonty or one of the Orga.

The content team goes through several phases.

In general, all work around content before and after the event is dealt with by the content team in general, and all work around content during the event is managed by speaker ops. The speaker ops team may also handle requirements gathering from speakers, and organise transport for speakers.

== Communication and resources ==

* We have a shared google drive folder for all content documentation for the current event, and we can share access to the same documents for all previous events.
* There is a content channel on IRC for chatting between the team, and we can give you an IRCCloud.com account if you are not already familiar with IRC.
* The main EMF website hosts all CFP content & scheduling, and you can have access to this granted by one of the Org team.
* We have several shared email inboxes (such as content@, installations@) hosted on Helpmonks, again you can have access to these granted by one of the Org team.

== Types of content ==

EMF is made up of many different types of content and the Content team facilitates all of these, both organising them (where needed) and ensuring they are discoverable.

In general 80% of the content at EMF comes from the CFP, and 20% comes from people we invite as part of our outreach. The speakers that we outreach to are suggested by attendees and the org team, and for (generally famous) speakers who would not attend EMF otherwise we may go out of our way to secure their attendance (by offering free tickets, etc) however we minimise this and it is at the discretion of the org team.

Talks
-----

* Talks are sourced through the CFP and by inviting speakers. Generally we will ask invited speakers to fill in the CFP to track everything.
* Talks are hosted on one of the main stages.
* Talks that are not from invited speakers are anonymised and go through the full CFP review process by the review panel.
* Talks from invited speakers are inputted into the CFP, but they may be manually approved by the Content team instead of going through the review process.
* We offer free day tickets or 1/3 off regular tickets for the speaker and one other person. More may be approved at the discretion of the Content team.

Workshops

In general 80% of the content at EMF comes from the CFP, and 20% comes from people we invite as part of our outreach. The speakers that we outreach to are suggested by attendees and the org team, and for (generally famous) speakers who would not attend EMF otherwise we may go out of our way to secure their attendance (by offering free tickets, etc) however we minimise this and it is at the discretion of the org team.

EMF is volunteer run. We make sure that there are volunteers and that they are treated well.

Right now we need people to help us and the [[Team:Web]] build the volunteer system. This will be used to organise volunteers during the event, letting them sign up to shifts and see what's available. If you'd like to help with this please get in contact via [[IRC]] (we have the #emfcamp-web channel for organising in).

We're really interested in hearing from folks who've experience '''managing volunteers''' to help us on site as well as people who wouldn't mind helping out the '''kitchen''' that provides the volunteer meals.

During the event we'll be organising volunteers for stewarding around the site, bar shifts and other things. All of this will be done via the volunteer system so keep an ear out for us opening it up.

We also organise volunteers for set up & tear down so if that's of interest (we especially need people to help with tear down) keep an eye out for our email asking for volunteers.

Logistics involves getting physical things to the site, directing drivers to drop things in the right place on the site, directing visiting vehicles during the event, and organising collection and delivery of things away from the site after the festival.

Jobs logistics covered in 2016 included:

* "Last mile" organisation of items ordered by other teams - e.g. directing lorry drivers to the site
* Organising delivery of NOC and other equipment to a storage unit near the site before buildup
* Organising delivery of that equipment to site
* Scheduling of delivery and collection of equipment (so the volunteer kitchen doesn't turn up before there's a tent to put it in)
* Marking out tent locations with chalk paint on the site and acting as main point of contact for tent contractors
* Directing sanitary trucks to empty IBCs and portaloos during the event
* Counting bulk items such as chairs, tables, and fire extinguishers off vehicles on delivery
* Ordering small sundry items such as gloves, tapes, marker pens and whiteboards
* Ordering specialist equipment required by installations such as propane and propane accessories

The work involved is a split between:

* Walking/driving around site pointing at things and talking to people.
* Answering the phone and ordering things with a laptop.

We need one or two volunteers to help with either of the above. Logistics is good for anyone who wants a "desk job" during setup or teardown. The job does '''not''' involve any lifting or carrying. Good spoken English would be an advantage. It may involve some early starts - being able to answer the phone from 7 AM during setup and teardown is important.

EMF is volunteer run. We make sure that there are volunteers and that they are treated well.

Right now we need people to help us and the [[Team:Web]] build the volunteer system. This will be used to organise volunteers during the event, letting them sign up to shifts and see what's available. If you'd like to help with this please get in contact via [[IRC]] (we have the #emfcamp-web channel for organising in).

We're really interested in hearing from folks who've experience '''managing volunteers''' to help us on site as well as people who wouldn't mind helping out the '''kitchen''' that provides the volunteer meals.

During the event we'll be organising volunteers for stewarding around the site, bar shifts and other things. All of this will be done via the volunteer system so keep an ear out for us opening it up.

We also organise volunteers for set up & tear down so if that's of interest (we especially need people to help with tear down) keep an eye out for our email asking for volunteers.

= What we do =

The team is collectively responsible for obtaining the license, logistics, setup, staffing and running of the bars throughout the event.

As this is the first time we've had a second bar we need more help from everyone, developers, volunteers, and video makers are especially needed...

== Bar staff ==

The are only two pre-requisites to volunteering as bar staff, first you must be over 18 as this is a legal requirement for selling alcohol which is a large part of the role, and second that you are willing to learn.

There are loads of benefits to volunteering on the EMF bar:

# Serving your fellow festival-goers and working with a team of volunteers in the fast paced environment behind the bar is a great way to meet new people and socialise, it doesn’t really feel like work at all.
# It’s a great way to learn how to work on a bar and get experience if you ever fancy a career change! We’ll teach you everything you need to know on the job, it’s really easy once you get started.
# Usually the bar shifts are pretty short so they’re easy to fit in with other things you might want to do, you can even pop back later and help out if there’s a big queue, and help get your friends served quicker.

Working behind the bar is loads of fun, it’s not hard work, and without lovely people like you we’d have no bar, so volunteer for a shift or two, or even three!

== Developers ==
We need developers who are interested in volunteering on the bar software we use [https://github.com/sde1000/quicktill quicktill], written in Python and developed by [[User:Steve]] needs some changes to comply with this years license, if you are up for a challenge get in touch.

We also need someone to work with [[Team:Web]] and [[Team:Volunteering]] on creating a system to track who's undertaken bar training.

== Film maker/animator ==

This year we want to improve the training process by creating a short training video or animation that explains the basics to new bar staff, if you have a creative flair why not get in touch with us via the mailing list.
