Inhabitants
Name | Intro | Bringing | |
---|---|---|---|
Jon | Created another village like this in 2012, back when I knew no one. Doing it again 12 years later to provide a home for people who would like a softer entry to EMF than trying to find a space in the field. | 25m 16A ceeform to 4x UK plug extension, some addressable LED strip (no power supply, or anything to drive it though), 2 other people (if you're one of those people, add your name below and decrement that count) | |
Adam | Jon’s friend. First time to EMF but have been planning to come for 6 years - very excited! | 25m 16A ceeform to 6x UK plug extension, dome tent, excitement and so many ideas I can never make reality (and a hope that this last point will change in a weekend!) | |
Peter | Absolutely new to EMF. Works with computers, makes things in wood, fabric, plastic, occasionally basic electronics and metal work. | 25m 16a Ceeform to Ceeform cable, 15m Ceeform to 3x 13a sockets, kettle and stove, two smallish camping tables. | |
Also a hacker camp newbie! Software hacker for fun and also for a living, radio ham, sometime musician.
I've ended up tagging along with a friend's village, but still a first-timer and bewildered -- keen to meet others feeling the same! | |||
Bastiaan | First time EMF Camp visitor, all the way from The Netherlands. Financial software consultant by day, hardware hacker at night. | The Things Network gateway for LoRaWAN coverage | |
Emily | First time at a hacker camp - I know Raz, Robert and Ryan but I want to meet more people! Programmer/content writer, and in my free time I'm into puzzles and trivia. | ||
Raz | First time at EMF / any hacker camp, keen to meet other newbies! Computational chemist from London, (very) amateur musician, Emily's boyfriend. | ||
ryan | first timer, talk to me about blender. hates capitals | ||
Nyx | First timer. Interested in radios, public transport, and homebrew games. | 16a splitter, 5 metre 16a to 4x 13a socket cable, camping stove | |
Andy Fletcher | First time at EMF. Off grid in South Shropshire. Love to talk about Solar power, battery systems, inverters, CO2 and climate change. Yes you can run your house purely on solar in the UK :) - Offgrid PV photovoltaic LiFePO4 | ||
Niamhishere | EMF second timer but now with some different dimensions. Have son, will play arcade games, prefer if the village is on the quiet side for the night. | ||
Tmor | Engineer, Tinkerer, and EMF first timer. Interested in anything involving electrons. | 40m 16A ceeform cable, 2 way splitter, and short Ceeform to 4x 13A + 2 USB. A wheelbarrow frame trolley thing for moving stuff between site and carpark. Small 20L fridge for drinks, milk, etc. | |
Steve | First timer. Into radios and want to hear about anything that people are excited about. | ||
Roger | Regular on C3 and NL Camps, EMF first timer. Identity and mail migration specialist in the M$ bubble by day, electronics, security and general tech enthusiast by night. | Event Shelter 4.5mx4.5m, Gas Grill/Cooking station, Switch (12+2x 1GbE), 16A CEE (blue) to CEE 7/3 (SchuKo) + 5 port CEE 7/3 | |
Hopo | Connected to Leicester Hackspace, but we havent got a contingency at EMF this year. Last attended in 2016. A creator of things with LEDs, mechatronics, and general tinkering. Looking to discover new exiting people and things. | 2mx2m LED curtain, can be freestanding (to walk through) or attached to the side of a marquee/tent. If this can be visible from the 'street' that would be much appreciated. Also, a Thermal Grill Illusion that I would like to be able to set up in the event shelter for people to play with if possible, smaller than a cat-carrier, needs mains. I also have a sand-table, but still needs some (software) work so unsure if to bring that or not. | |
Soph | Connected to Leicester Hackspace as above, First time at EMF. Interested in performance arts and installations, fabric creations and bright colours. Looking to meet some interesting people and do some fun things. | We (Hopo & I) can bring an additional gazebo or another little gas stove etc. We have various camping supplies if needed. | |
Alasdair | First time at EMF. I enjoy playing with Arduino and other electronics, as well as generally making things (woodwork, leathercraft, ...). | If I've got time I'll try and program an ESP32 attached to an LED strip with a few animations | |
Jaz | First time at EMF. Day job is being an electronic engineer fixing technical problems. The rest of life is trying to figure out what keeps me amused, and do it for as long as it makes me keep ticking. I like making things and fixing thing. Keen to see what EMF is about and what's interesting, and meet some new humans along the way! | Camping kit and not much else! | |
Enda | Irish traveling from Berlin with my son Emile both first time to the EMF. I am a designer and visual artist with a ever growing interest in experimental music. My son is a 3D print enthusiast who has become part of the maker scene in Berlin. | ||
Sara | First time at EMF. I am a lecturer in computer science, and enjoy making interactive installations. I'm coming with my son. Hoping to meet other friendly people and learn some new stuff. | ||
Rosana | Studied telecommunications engineering but ended up working as a software developer. I miss the physical world (electronics & antennas) a lot and I'd like to someday join a radio amateur club and be able to design a self sufficient home. Living in London, moved to the UK with my love life Rafael three and a half years ago but thanks to the pandemic I am just now starting to be part of society and do things with people again. | Electric inflator, notebooks and pens, smiles and eager to help & have fun. | |
Aaron | linux sysadmin (previously deep learning researcher) from Nottingham. Hobbies include computers (especially old ones!), cycling, music, drinking tea (anyone bringing a kettle?) and ham radio. | camping things, tent, radio | |
Rémy | First timer, likes everything wireless, currently teacher and researcher in an engineering school. More of a software person than a hardware person. | A few SDRs and ESP32, a 15m french cable reel for europlug / schuko | |
Ben | Attended 2012 and 2014. Bad at writing intros. Interested in modular synths. Uses Arch BTW. | 240v inflator, UK extension lead, tent peg hammer | |
Sven | Attended 2018, many German Chaos events (from Berlin). Software-side of tech, fiddling with electronics as a hobby. Indieweb. Might camp elsewhere, but am going to visit. | random electronics bits, bag-space permitting | |
Andrejs | My first time attending EMF, based in Gothenburg (Sweden), independent consultant in software development for embedded systems. Interested in battery and power related projects, 3D printing, running your own linux servers, bikepacking and everything else in engineering and science. | Camping stuff, laptop, RTL-SDR and development boards. | |
Ciro | First time @EMFCamp. Videogame programmer. Interested in music, Twitter bots, origami, postcards and Arduino/RaspberryPi stuff. | Origami sheets, musical instruments, sum electronics | |
Scott | Second time to EMF, coming with my friend Dan. Studied electrical & electronic engineering, but ended up in web programming. Looking to learn more about 3D printing before buying my first printer. Would also love to talk to you all about any of the following topics: Home automation/smart home, gaming, electronics, ebikes, programming, and anything about computers, new and old. | Camping essentials, coffee machine and some ESP dev boards | |
Dan | First timer too. Coming along with Scott. | For now, just a tent and some tent pegs, but am sure this list will get longer. | |
Balint | Second time to EMF, embedded software engineer, electronics hobbyist, Nintendo modder | Extra Ethernet cable, soldering iron, SDR, tools for embedded software | |
Rob | Second EMF, big gap since last one. Well aged, mostly software and networking person resolving to have more fun with embedded hardware this year. | Long extension lead with 16A connector, Ethernet switch and leads, maybe a box of cable and some crimp connectors, general tools and stuff. ESP32 modules, SDR, Pi, Soldering Iron. Gazebo and gas stove if there is still space after all that lot but have to leave late Saturday evening. |

Location / Layout
Location:
In the vicinity of F3 (turn on the DKs layer here to see: https://map.emfcamp.org/#18.08/52.039897/-2.377096)
Layout:
Middle of the camp will be a social area. Hopefully sheltered, seated, and with power.
There should be space left roughly in the middle for an event shelter. With tents pitched around it.
Should leave a path out to the main road from that for ease of access.
